 | 29th Mar 2009 | Flying the Chipmunk
On Sunday 29/03/09 I was Invited to have a trip in a Chipmunk which was a lifelong ambition of mine.
Mr Stewart Smith saw some photo's I took of this particular Chipmunk a week previously on Pprune & made it known he was one of the pilots who flew it & invited me for a flight with him at Wickenby (EGNW) near Market Rasen Lincs.
The Chipmunk Reg was G-BWNK (Ex RAF WD390).
We had a local flight which between taking photo's I was able to fly the Chipmunk & what a nice aircraft to fly. I was in the front seat for this flight.
I had a smile on my face for quite a few days later & only wish I could fly in a Chipmunk more often.
Here is a selection of the photo's I took of my flight & also of the Chipmunk being flown by Mark Whitnall who was having a check ride to fly on his own.

 | 28th Feb 2009 | Flight From Robin Hood Doncaster Airport
I was invited to fly with Rick Rouse a pilot local to Doncaster Airport on Saturday 28/02/09.
Weather was broken low cloud with high level cloud cover.
We took off from DSA (Doncaster, Sheffield Airport) EGCN & turned West then north to Kirk Sandall where i live, after some photo's of my Village we headed west to the A1 to where B&Q Redhouse is situated, I work at Redhouse so took more photo's.
After that we headed north to clear DSA Zone at 1800 feet then swung east towards the river humber & Goole eventually turning south to line up with Sandtoft EGCF for an approach & landing on Runway 23 following a Helicopter G-ERIS in.
After a short stay we took off then headed to Sherburn In Elmet EGCJ for a cupper & breakfast approaching & landing on Runway 29 left.
We took off from Sherburn on Runway 24 & climbed out over Ferrybridge power station then headed east towards Drax Power station before heading to Humber Bridge East Yorkshire for some more photo's.
After a few orbits of the Bridge we headed south west back to DSA for a Touch & go before landing.
Total time airborne was 2 hours.

The aircraft we flew in was a PA28 Reg G-BVJZ belonging to the Sheffield Flight School based now at DSA, EGCN.

Had an outing to RAF Coningsby in December.
The weather was very Gloomy, so the photo's were dark, tried my best with the editing & here is the end results.

 | 8th Sep 2008 to 10th Sep 2008 | EGQS RAF Lossiemouth 08/09/08 & 10/09/08
Here are a selection of photo's i took on my recent vacation up in Scotland at RAF Lossiemouth.
Apart from the usual Tornado's & Sea Kings that live there, also visiting & based there for the week were Tucano's from RAF Linton On Ouse & RAF Cranwell.
On Wednesday 10/08/09 the weather was Dull & there were a few more types visiting, GAF Tornado's, Nimrod did loads of circuits, & a Dominie from RAF Cranwell visited.

 | 16th Aug 2008 | East Kirkby DeHavilland Fly In
East Kirkby Museum in Lincolnshire had a DeHavilland fly In where different DeHavilland aircraft were doing a cross country flight & Stopped off on the way to thier next destination.
I was able to take photo's close up due to having been invited by a friend of the Cottesmore Aviation Group Who was given access all area's.
Photo's taken using a combinatiopn of my Sony A100 with small lense & Sony A350 with 300mm Zoom lense.

The Valley Aviation Society Held a Photocall at RAF Valley on Thursday 14/08/08.
I went along to see what i could get in the way of Military Photo's & i wasn't disappointed.
The Weather was Brilliant!! The airframes displaying were great.
It was a long day for me as i set off from Doncaster at 05.00am & arrived home at 19.30 & it was a 3 hour drive each way.
I bought a Sony 350K 14.2 megapix Camera & was keen to try it out & was experimenting a bit so some photo's didn't come out as i would have liked as i was still gettting the settings adjusted on the camera.
Thanks to the VAS for organising a great day, Also thanks to the aircrew who bought the aircraft in & displayed them.
I hope you enjoy the selection that i have displayed here, i took 621 photo's on the day.

These are my selection from the RAF Waddington Air Show 2008.
I was there on Arrivals day which was the best weatherwise as the Saturday Show day was rain all morning then brighter in the afternoon.
I didn't take many on the Saturday as i was trying for airframes that i hadn't got before, IE the Vulcan whjch was doing it's frist display since 1992.
Camera used was Sony A100.

While on a Camping Holiday in Wales, we visited Beaumaris where they were having a festival week.
The Red Arrows did thier First ever public Display since returning from Cyprus 2 days previously.

 | 29th Mar 2008 | RAF Leeming EGXE XXV(F) SQN Photocall
On Saturday 29/03/08, RAF Leeming XXV(F) Sqn Tornado's had an open day for Aircraft Enthusiasts.
I went along on Friday 28/03/08 to watch arrivals, hampered by Rain in the morning, I didn't photograph the F4, Harrier, F16's & Nimrod Landing but the rain cleared as they were taxying to park.
Saturday Morning gave us bright sunshine & no clouds to start with, so got around all the airframes early on.
These were taken using my Sony A100 & First time on here in RAW before process.

This was my first attempt at RAW photography.
I didn't know how to process them untill my brother (Brian Marshall) came up with a workflow that i could work with & understand.
The occasion was to see the Kallita Air 747 land.
There was a 90 degree crosswind from the west that day which shows in one of the shots where the windsock is included.
All taken with my Sony A100.

 | 16th Dec 2007 | EGCN Doncaster Airport Heavies
On Sunday 16th December, the Antonov 124 came into DSA to load out for the Middle East & i was there to see it land.
On Friday 28th December, the Hong Kong Oasis 747 used DSA for Touch & Go's Circuit training, it landed while waiting for clearance back to Gatwick, i also took some photo's while it was there.
The weather on both occasions was cloudy & dark.
The camera used was my Sony A100 with 75mm 300mm lense.

In my spare time when i am not out photographing real aircraft, i like to relax & fly on one of my flight sims.
I also like flying on Multi Sim where i fly with others on the internet which is great for honing your formation flying.
I currently use Flight sim 2002, 2004, FX, combat flight sim 1 & 3.

Took a trip to Manchester Airport on Saturday 20th October for some photo's of Civvies.
The weather was great, wall to wall sunshine.
I started at the south side of Runway 23 left as the sun was behind me, later when opperations finished i moved to the aviation viewing park where the sun was in front so the later photo's were backlit.

I spent the day with my Friend Alexander Galinski (Age 11) at RAF Coningsby introducing him to the delights of photographing Military Aircraft.
We witnessed 15 Typhoons returning from thier mornings flying together & also assorted other military types as well.

I had a trip to RAF Cosford to see the RAF Museum.
This was my first look around since the new Building has been built housing the Cold War collection.
It was very difficult to photograph the airframes in this collection because the airframes are all crammed in, but it was still very impressive.

 | 29th Jun 2007 | Jaguar Farewell 6 Sqn Coningsby
I was one of the lucky ones to get a ticket to 6 Sqn "Canopeners" Jaguar Farewell Day at RAF Coningsby.
The visit included a tour around 29 Sqn hangar housing Typhoons, Battle Of Brittain Memorial Flight Hangar & the Highlight was to visit 6 Sqn Jaguar Farewell Enthusiast Day.
A demonstation was put on with a Jaguar starting up & Taxing out of it's HAS which was very impressive.
Sad to see this great aircraft retire.
Many thanks to all at 6 Sqn & everyone at RAF Coningsby who helped make the day great.

On my recent vacation to USA i visited the USAF Armament Museum at Eglin AF Base Florida.

 | 23rd Jun 2007 | Naval Air Station Pensacola Museum & Flightline.
On 31/05/07, I visited NAS Pensacola Museum & joined the Flightline Tour.
I had visited the museum in 2002 & published photo's on here but i wasn't pleased with the quality of the indoor photo's.
Also i didn't get to do the flightline tour as we visited on a Saturday in 2002 & the tours only happen during the week.
All the indoor photo's were taken using the Tripod & remote shutter release & NO Flash.

 | 5th May 2007 | Battle Of Brittain Memorial Flight Duxford
On Saturday 5th May 2007. The RAF Battle of Brittain Memorial Flight had a day at Duxford.
They bought all the fleet down to Duxford in Cambridgshire UK.
The Fleet consisted of 5 Spitfires, 2 Hurricanes, 2 Chipmunks, 1 DC3 Dakota & 1 Lancaster.
Also there was a display by the RAF Typhoon which also did a flypast with one of the Spitfires.

 | 28th Apr 2007 | Dakota DC3 G-AMPY Flight
On Saturday 28/04/07, i flew in a Dakota DC3 Reg G-AMPY of the Air Atlantique fleet.
We flew out of EGCN Doncaster Airport (formerly RAF Finningley) in South Yorkshire UK.
We took off on Runway 02 North then turned North East towards Hull then routed over Humber Bridge, then bak down the east of the airfield turned in before Bawtry & landed back on 02.
The flight was approx 35 mins airborne.
Our pilots were; Chief pilot for Air Atlantique Captain Jon Corley & the Co Pilot was Jon Gowdy, we had an air hostess but i didn't get her name.
The flight was very smooth & quieter that i thought it would be.

The weather was brilliant for taking photo's.

The Red Arrows had to cut short thier display as there were airspace infringements from 3 culprits.

On Saturday 15th July 2006, I went to Breighton Air Show Near Selby in North Yorkshire.
It was a very Hot & mainly cloudless day.
The show was for aircraft of the older generation, no Jets flew at this show.
This was a most enjoyable day i have had in a long time & i recommend it to anyone.

These are from my visit to RAF Valley Anglesey, Wales.
I was there on Monday 26/06/06, while on holiday in Wales.
We arrived to find that the Red Arrows were visiting, they do thier emergency training on the Hawk simulator at Valley.
Also we saw Helicopters flying out towards Hollyhead, so we set of in search & found them doing winch & loadmaster training out near South Stack.
The weather was cloudy & overcast, also tried raining.

 | 27th May 2006 | Day Out at Coningsby Via Waddington
On Friday 28th April i had the day off, so decided to get some practice in before the Airshow season started.
Nice day so got the motorbike out & headed for RAF Waddington, not much was happening there so went to RAF Coningsby. was rewarded with plenty of Typhoons to take photos of.
Also the BBMF Lancaster was being repaired outside its shed.

I visited Coningsby again on Friday 23/06/06 & they were opperating from the opposite run to my last visit.
This provided me with some better close up photo's of landings.
On the way home i passed RAF Waddington & the Sentry was doing touch & goes over the A15.

On Friday 31st March 2006, at Robin Hood Doncaster Airport formerly Known as RAF Finningley, had a Puma visit as part of a service to reveal a memorial in tribute to RAF Units that had served at RAF Finningely when it was an operational service base.
I went down to photograph the flypast but missed it.
The aircrew of the Puma gave me kind premission to take photo's.

Due to the popularity of the earlier photo's that i posted of my tour of duty down the Falkland Islands, i have found some more that might be of interest to you.

These photo's were taken on several visits to Doncaster Air Museum in 2004.
The exhibits are restored aircraft or in the process of being restored.
The Yellow Westland Whirlwind is a running example, it is not flown but sometimes ground run to keep it working.
there are a few more aircraft than i have published here but i will make another visit & update the collection soon.

 | 12th Jul 2005 | 183rd Illinois Air National Guard.
While on holiday in the USA in 2003, My wife & i were invited to look around the F16 of the Illinois Air National Guard at Capitol Airport in Springfield.
We were shown around by our good friend Rick Shanner who is a Tech in the Engine workshop on the base. Rick has kindly given me permission to publish these photo's.
First 14 photo's were taken with Fujifilm Finepix 6800Zoom.
I again Visited the 183rd Illinois ANG on June 5th 2007.
I wasn't allowed to see in the cockpit this time so unable to update the Cockpit photo's.
Rick Shanner again was our host & took us out to the flight line where 6 F16's returned from a sortie, also we were shown around the "Hush House" where they do the ground engine run up's.
These new photo's are at the bottom of the collection & were taken using the Sony A100.

On one of our visits to USA, i was offerd a flight in a Stearman. It Cost $50.00 (£20.00), the flight lasted 20 mins. I was given control to fly for most of the flight except the low flyby & landing.
Al the pilot said that my flying was great.
